All of a sudden in IE i get red X's instead of graphics and pictures. Not all but many. As an example of whats missing is on this page:

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/index.php?

there is all red X's in front of each forum listing. The adds on top are OK. It seems that many thumbnail pictures on websites do the same. I didn't do anything other then removed Office and reinstalled it and did a windows update yesterday.
I first noticed it today. I don't think I had it yesterday.
    Can anybody help?
Thanks. Don't know what I'd do without you guys.

Thanks Pete. I always appreciate your help. I did a search before I posted for red x and got nothing and get the same with your search string. I feel sure it's probably a common problem, in fact I think it has happened to me in the past but can't remember how I fixed it.
Sorry to bother you and good luck with your install.
Anybody else have any ideas for me?

floyd--I understand this is happening on only some pages with some images.
    The simplest solutions are to
    1) click Refresh
    2) right click where the image should be|Show Picture.
If that does not work, there are many possibilities. Just for starters

If this has just started you could do a System Restore, assuming you run WinXP. (Win98/ME also offers scanreg /restore to roll back the clock.) Of course that will also reverse the other changes you made yesterday.
P.S. Suggest you post what versions of Windows and IE you are using.
P.P.S.--Have you cleaned out Temporary Internet Files lately?

Jim, I'm running XP home SP2 fully updated. I've tried a number of things in your links here and but not doing a XP repair as I'd just as soon not have to deal with changing all my defaults and settings. I might do the restore though as even though I'm going to lose my reinstall of Office, but that might be the lesser of 2 evils.
Strange how it only affects some pages and even only certain pictures or graphics within that page. I frequent a friends blog and he post a lot of thumbnails on it. Some I can see others not and of course the ones I cant see only open with an X also.
BTW I have run virus and spyware scans etc and nothing.

Well guys I got it fingered out! LOL.
Jim you got me thinking about deleting the temp IE files which I already had done as well as the cookies, but then I got to thinking about the tracks cleaner I use and run often (IE Privacy Keeper). In there it has a place that you can select certain cookies, URLs etc, to prevent them from being erased and of course the blog page I refereed to and this page and others I had checked as protected so the cookies weren't being cleaned out. I unchecked the offending sites, reran it and viola everything is fine. Somehow this and a few other pages got corrupted and I kept loading the corrupted cookies.
Mission accomplished. Thanks to both of you for your help. Pete I hope you got your project finished successfully.

floyd--Thanks for posting back. Glad to hear things are working again. Now we all have learned.

PeteC--Did you notice that the link you posted has some of the more difficult Microspeak in it, but the bottom line is to click Refresh!? :)
