Am using Win98SE, IE 6.0 OE 6. I am having the "Red X" problem. I have followed the Instructions in Microsoft’s Q283807, however the Encoding under VIEW defaults to Western European (ISO) rather than Western European (Windows) and I have no clue as to how to change that default.

In other words I change the selection under VIEW to Western European (Windows) and as soon as I do ANYTHING ELSE it defaults to Western European (ISO).

    How do I resolve this?

Thanx WelshJim, I gave your response a try but to no avail. I do not use firewall and I disabled PopUp stopper.

RickyD2--Well, that's a shame! There certainly were enough potential fixes in the first link. However, someone is always finding a new fix. Hope it is you.
It never hurts to Repair IE if you have not done that yet. Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove|scroll to Microsoft Internet Explorer|click Add/Remove|check box Repair Internet Explorer|click OK. Wait until you are asked to reboot.
And I assume the box "Show Pictures" in IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab|Multimedia section is checked.
