Our computer got a virus on it a few weeks ago. My husband has tried running the system recovery that wipes the hard drive and takes everything back to factory settings. However, every time we do this we end up with a blue screen about a quarter of the way through. The screen typically says IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL. We are getting pretty frustrated because even with the back up discs we can't get our computer to run. Every time it's turned on it immediately goes to the screen with the options of recovery or format, both end with the blue screen. Does anyone have any tips?

    Welcome to the boards.

When doing the recovery from the recovery partition, make sure that there is nothing but the Mouse, Keyboard and Monitor plugged into the tower. I am assuming that you are using a desktop here.

Yes, it is a desktop. The router is hooked up to the computer. Also, the computer is attached to another computer via a KVM switch. Do you think either of those would be causing this issue during the recovery?

Probably. Just leave the PC that you are doing the recovery on all by itself. Nothing plugged into it like printer or any other thing. Just like it came out of the box.

I just unplugged everything and plugged the monitor, keyboard and mouse straight to the computer. It ran for almost an hour during the recovery and then a different blue screen showed up with "Memory Management" as the problem now.

    Hi lisajames779.

The Memory Management blue screen indicates that you most likely have a problem with your RAM.

I would start by testing your memory. Run Memtest86 and see if your memory passes the test.

    Please note:

This will help narrow down the problem if a single or a pair of memory modules are causing the computer to blue screen during the recovery process.

If you have more than one stick of ram in it, pull one of them out and see what happens. If it boots, try just the other stick by itself also.
