Friend running XP, with office. Had problems sending an email with a word doc. Ran the repair tool in office. When he returned to his computer, all his emails and self created folders were gone. Someone have a link how to recover/find these folders intact?

    Hi aleekat!

No response this far so I'll give a shot at it.

I assembled and installed a new computer for a friend and he is even more computer illiterate than I am. At one point in time he had installed an Office package, not knowing that Outlook "kicks out" Oulook Express as the default. He continued using Outlook Express but was using the contacts list from Outlook. His messages were in the *.dbx files of Outlook Express but there was no Address Book to be found. Everything was a mess.

I took his old HDD out from the old computer and installed it as a slave in the new one, to copy over his data but I ran out of time and had to go home. I took his old HDD with me and hooked it up to my computer to do some investigating. I found out that all information, pertaining to Outlook, is held in a single file OUTLOOK.PST. I don't use Outlook myself so, I made his *.PST my *.PST and was from Outlook able to export his corrupted contacts list to Excel for him to manually recreate an Address Book.

With Outlook closed, find the OUTLOOK.PST file in C:\Documents and settings\Username\Local settings\Application data\Microsoft\Outlook and move it to a different location. A new OUTLOOK.PST will be created the next time Outlook is started. Just follow the prompts and say YES to everything.

Now, in Outlook, go to File > Import and Export > Import from another program or another file and direct it to the moved OUTLOOK.PST. Maybe You will get lucky ...... ;) ...... !
