I have just had some powerpoint files recovered from a faulty hard disk. However when i looked at them the file had a Word icon. I double clicked on the file and it tried to open it in Word unsucssefully. I then right clicked and opened with Powerpoint. It was fine. However i can not change the file to open with Powerpoint as default. If i do this all my other Word documents then try to open with powerpoint. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to stop it?
    Thanks
    Alex

What is the file extension to these files? PPS PP? or DOC?

They are meant to be .ppt but they have turned into .doc format somehow.

So they litteraly have the .doc extension? If so, just rename the files and change the extension to .ppt

There's always the bright side. I'd be happy to get the files back in any useable form.
