    Here is my story.

I could not get Netscape 7.1 mail to allow me to "send later" on my laptop. It worked fine on my desktop. I did a google search and found a message here that addressed the problem. It made reference to a problem with the profile, and to just create a new one, but don't mess with the name.

So, I did just that. I created a new profile, and the problem was resolved. I mail, I could "send later." But, I could not figure out how to link the new profile to all my messages (in the old profile). When the client was open, I could not access the saved mail. I decided that the new profile did me no good if I could not get it to see my old messages, so I deleted it. Well, when I reopened Netscape, it said the profile was not there, and neither were all my files/messages. GONE.

If anyone can come up with any way of undeleting the PROFILES directory, I would greatly appreciate it. I usually back up on a regular basis, but I have lost about 2 weeks worth of work if I can't get it back.

    Thanks

    Mike

    Welcome to the Forum, mjv!

    Hi Mike,

Your Profile is still there, and depending on your OS, will be located either here:
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

    Or here:

    Windows 95/98/ME
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

Once you locate your Profile, then open the Profile Manager. Delete the Profile you just found. When prompted to "Delete Files" or "DON'T Delete Files ", select DON'T Delete Files. Close Profile Manager

    Open Profile Manager again
    Select Create Profile
Type in the name of the Profile you just deleted
    Does Netscape open now?

If so, open Mail & Newsgroups
Open Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
In the Server Settings, scroll down to Local directory field. Type in the correct path to your current Mail Account folder:
    < path >\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt\Mail\mail.isp.com

You should be able to access your Mail now. If you see questions marks (???) just open that folder and they will go away.

Let us know if this works.

    Ramona

    Ramona,

Thanks for the answer, but it wasn't there. I think I may be out of luck.

How did you delete your profile? The proper way is to use the Profile Manager, select Manage Profiles|Delete Profile. You are given two choices: one deletes nothing more than the link from the program to the hard drive, the delete files remove everything, all the contents of the profile.
As for the hard drive, you cannot even rename the profile.
There is, rarely, any good reason to delete a profile, unless you created a new one, using information of the old one. I have an entire folder of unused profiles, which I can tap for spares.
But, in your case, unless you had the profile in a non-default location, you did a final job on it.
