My niece backed up her work on floppy 1.4 MB disk. Unfortunately she erased her data from her hard drive. Now, her floppy drive is not reading floppy disk. (She was using this floppy fine few days ago) When she insert her floppy in A drive it gives her a message "disk not formated. Do you want to format?" Is there any way to retreive contents from this floppy disk? Drive is reading OK her other floppies.

First thing to do is to try the floppy in another drive, although there is a strong possibility that the disk has been damaged or is corrupted.

Second thought - and I've no idea if this will work or not, but give it a try .....

Boot to a C: prompt - start > run - type in cmd . Insert the floppy in the drive, go to the A: prompt and type in dir
If the files show up you should be able to copy them back to the hard drive.

In any case explain to your niece - gently - that a back up is just that - a duplication of data in case of problems. Deleting the original data voids the back up!

Please use a descriptive title to your threads which reflects your problem. Far better chance then that somebody will stop by and assist. Posting Rules #3 I have edited your thread
