Perhaps someone would like to confirm this for me. I am told that Windows Media Center Edition has the capability to record TV shows with closed captions and play them back - with the captions intact. Before I go to the trouble of upgrading, I'd really like to be sure that this is true. Can anyone verify this?

    Thanx!

    From Vista's help file:

So a rented DVD that has Closed Caption built in would work fine...I would guess that a recorded TV show would work too.

One would think that, yes, but it's not the way things actually work. Several TV tuner PVRs claim to support closed captioning, but NONE actually record them, they are only available in Preview Mode. Someone suggested Media Center to me because they thought it actually recorded the captions for playback. For someone who is hearing impaired, not being able to record the captions is as good as not recording the sound would be to someone who can hear.

In view of the fact that I've been burnt so many times with this, I'd really love to hear that it can do it before I go to the trouble and expense. (Actually, I'd love to hear, period! but I'll settle for this).
