record # of malware removed

    Just broke my old record of total malware, spyware, and trojans removed in one sitting. A friends computer...

    1600+ files, objects, regkeys and reg values cleaned w/ Adaware, Spybot & HijackThis. Also cleaned about 30 files manually that these apps did not detect, including their respective registry entries. Lastly, AVG free picked up 13 trojans.

    All said & done, took 2.5 hrs not including the system tweaks and safe mode defrag.

    The numbers don't amaze me but the speed of cleaning does - nice job.
    My all time record follows. After a few hours, I wound up wiping the drive afterall.

    First Steps
    Corrupted/damaged Master Boot Record - repaired
    HDD Boot disabled in BIOS "“ re-enabled
    350 registry errors - repaired
    54 shortcut errors - repaired

    1st Virus scan
    stalled at 2971 files
    11 infected files
    11 files fixed

    2nd Virus scan "“ safe mode
    95259 files scanned
    5385 infected files
    5095 fixed or deleted
    4589 deleted
    290 quarantined
    506 repaired

    Known viruses detected
    W32.pinfi
    W32.HLLW.Purol
    W32.Benjamin.worm
    W32.IRCBot
    Downloader.Trojan
    W32.HLW.Winur.B

    Didn't record spyware - jumped ship too early.

    As Rockster2Usays:
    I didn't feel like spending too much more time cleaning off the "Gabage" so I also did a Clean Wipe of the Hard drive. Easier that way on the "Old" nerves.

    I had a happy camper now, knowing he had a nice "Clean Machine" with an Up to Date AV. :D
