    Can anyone help?

Had an old system with WIN95 upgraded to WIN98SE. Had a Mustek 600 III EP Plus scanner hooked up & working fine. OK, bought a new Dell (XP) and installed the scanner software. There is a newer driver available for the device for XP and I downloaded it.

Now I cant find the scanner listed in my computer/system information/hardware/device manager. Only thing close is ports/com1 & lpt1. I am used to WIN98SE and going to device manager/highlight what device and right click for properties & then upgrade driver...

This scanner is a parellell hook up to my printer. (in fact my printer is not listed under device manager!)...

    so how do I:

    1. identify the scanner and printer in device manager

    2. remove the old scanner driver in order to install the new one.

    thanks for any input...

I downloaded the updated driver from mustek and had a look at it. If it's the same one (web.exe) all you should have do is doulble click on the file and the installation will start.

    Thanks Zander...

    but that didn't work!

I double-clicked and started the installation, a dialog box appears when it is copying files...then another appears stating "Your OS is Windows XP the current direction to be installed to is twain_32\a4s2_32 are you sure to continue?"

I click continue, then another dialog box appears "place installation disk#2 into the floppy drive and press the OK button.
Well, the scanner software is on a single disk. I tried hitting "continue" with no disk and with the installation disk.....neither works, I am unable to continue....

    can anyone help?

I found out how to show the "hidden devices" and the printer appeared, but not the scanner. How can I get the scanner to appear under device manager so that I can update the driver?

If the scanner is going to show it will be in" My Computer" down at the bottom of the screen. Usually you just execute the driver program. I'm not on my desktop but I have never upgraded from the scanner. If it is some software that comes with the scanner then just run the upgrade from the download. There aren't many drivers you would need to do through Device Manager. Those are usually ones that you are trying to force to install. Sometimes you do have to point them when it is a new Add /Hardware install.

Don't know what to say here. I didn't go all the way through the install because I don't have a Mustek scanner so I don't really know for sure. Perhaps it's something like the tweakui install. When you're prompted to change disks, is there a browse button? If so, try clicking on it and browse to the location of the driver file you downloaded (the setup file you're currently using) and click on it. Then click ok. It may be too that when you run the file it extracts the files to your temp folder. You might browse to that and see if there's a disk one and disk two folder there. If so, point it at the disk 2 folder. Sorry, I can't help more here. I'll have another look and see what I can come up with.

I had another look at this and I think I know what's happening now. When you downloaded the driver, did you download one or two files. I checked at their site again and noticed something I hadn't before. There's two files you have to download. Have a look here . Notice there's two files from each download location. I didn't pay close enough attention the first time around and missed it too. I just assumed they were the same file from different locations. This isn't the case though. One of the files is 1.38 mb and the other is only 0.32 megabytes. If you haven't done so, download the small file and then run the install again. When it asks for the second disk show it the small file. If there is no browse button to use to point it at the small file maybe you can type in the path to it. If not, I'm sure it'll work if you copy both of the files to two floppy discs and then run the setup. When you're prompted for the second disk, put the floppy with the small file in the drive and click OK. I suspect this will get you going.
