WinXP Trying to get my recently viewed files back under 'File' in Word 2002. Went to Tools, Options, General, but recently viewed files is grayed out. How do I get this back?

I uninstalled the twueakui I already had installed (it wasn't located in the control panel) and installed the new one. It kept asking if I wanted it to be in the control panel. I kept saying yes, but it never showed up there. I even re-booted after installation, but no dice. Any suggestions.

Where did you download tweakui from? did you follow the sublink in the reference file Arie gave you? I don't know if there is a difference but that sublink sends one to a windowsNT version of tweakui, XP has it's own version (2.10). It will not be found as an icon in the control panel (without a tweak). It is accessible from the startmenu programs files list in a folder shortcut named "powertoys ".

    Here's the XP link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

You can do, as the link suggests, and modify this with tweakui or you can manually do this using regedit per these directions:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/301691/
    MORE INFORMATION
For a Windows-based program to be certified for Windows 2000, the program must honor the Group Policy setting that is in the NoRecentDocsHistory value in the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
When this policy is enabled, the program must not display any MRU lists. The policy is enabled if the value is 01 00 00 00; the policy is disabled if the value is 00 00 00 00.

    ---aditional nfo---------
If you trully desire an icon for teakui in the control panel see Kelly's tweakui numbered 1 (#1):

Okay, the recentry viewed files list is no longer grayed out, but it does not show under the File drop down list. What next?

Tweak.ui was in my program files under powertoys. What do I do now?
