I want to know how to keep a program from appearing on the start menu under the recently used program list.I have tried right clicking and going under properties but I can only find "change the number of programs that appear ".This is a minor, but annoying, problem for me.I want only the 5 programs I use regularly there, but when I use another program,it boots one of my top five out.Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Need to use the "Pin to Start Menu" option that you see when you right click on a program file. Then set the most often option to Zero.

First clear the Number of programs on Start list or individually remove what you don't want on the list, then set it to zero. Next: Start\Run\regedit\H_KEY_CURENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer. In the right pane create a new REG_DWORD key and name it NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList. Type it exactly as I typed it here. Then set the value to (1). Exit registry. You will still be able to pin items to the start menu. Any problems post back. Hope this is what you were looking for and it helps.

I have looked for the "Pin to Start Menu" option
 Exactly where is it? Joe R.

Where is the Recently used list ?

Found it. I was using the classic start menu-switched to start menu.
However when I click on Pin To Start Menu, There is no option to set a
    number

Right click startbutton and select properties. It should be on the startmenu tab and you need to click the button named "customize ". An option to set the number of programs on the start menu is there.

    --------
You can always leave this at one or two and when you open those programs that you want to pin to the start menu they will be reflected on the startmenu. You can then either right click them and select "pin to startmenu" or just left click dragNdrop them up there.

    Your most welcome. :)

I should also have added that the reason your reducing the number of items shown in this list is so you have maximum list space for the pinned menu. Other wise, eventually, as the list fills to capacity, you will get a warning popup that you need to reduce this number anyway (or something similar).
