Does anyone know where I can find the file that stores "recent" files? I know in 98 it was just listed in the Win98 folder as "recent ", but I can't find it now. I need to find out when some documents were opened that are appearing in my "document" list on the startup menu. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Shannon

shenanigins--If you right click on an item in the Documents list and then click Properties, you should learn from the General tab when the file was created and last opened ( "Accessed ").
You can also delete such files from the Documents list by right clicking the name and clicking Delete.
Maybe this will permit you to stop searching for Recent files.

unfortunately, I tried that. It shows the last accessed date and time as right then, since I am accessing it at that moment. I need to know when someone was looking at these files before, to figure out who was snooping on the system.

    Any other suggestions?

Also called "recent" in 2K. But since 2K is a multi-user OS, each user section in Documents & Settings has it's own Recent folder.

In windows explorer, tools~folder options and set to see hidden and system files. Then set for detail view. Now a search for recent should show you a list of all the "recent" folders for every user account. Open a folder and you will see what documents that user has accessed lately with the date/time they did the deed.

This assumes they were logged on to the machine at the time though. If they got to the file via UNC (like start~run~notepad \\someserver\someshare\somefile.txt) then that would be on the user's PC in the Recent folder for that user.
