No matter how many locations I open, the directory, "Recent," is always empty. Also, and I surmise they are connected, the same is true for all MS Office 2010 applications.

For the Start Menu, right click the Start button, left click Properties.

In the window that opens, check the box for either one or both of the options that start with "Store and display recently... ", click OK.

It was a typo. It's fixed. Thank you so much for pointing it out.

With the two boxes checked, none of the programs retains a recent shortcut. There must a program deleting or causing the non-retention of recent file shortcuts.

For more or less obvious reasons, I use Norton Internet Security and Norton Utilities, one of them may be causing the conflict. I will attempt to inspect this and report back. However, if you have any further suggestions, please reply. Thank you.

    Steve,

I messed around with the Add-in section in Outlook 2010, attempting to make certain Evernote was installed. After checking the box and closing Outlook, then restarting it, Outlook will not start. I probably did something else. However, I do not recall. How can I restart Outlook?

In fact, using the original solution to solve a computer problem, “Unplug it and start it Again,” continues to be the number one solution. A newer solution, “Delete it, and Reinstall it,” is equally efficient. After restarting my PC, all is well. My apology for the early post.
