    Hi,

For some reason, MS send me Office updates that are required if you do not have SP3 installed. However, I DO have SP3 installed and don't know why MS update does not see this.

The same problem exists with Office 2007 and SP1. I have it SP1 installed and Update doesn't seem to see this.

    I have ignored KB943985 for Office 2003 and KB946983 for Office 2007.

Now my big question: Do I install KB947801 for Office 2007 which is for the Compatibility Pack for Office even though I have SP1 installed?

Any help will be appreciated. I do not know why MS Updates are so confusing and difficult to understand.

Part of your question: Compatibility Pack for Office is for Office versions prior to 2007.

Example: Word 2007 can create a new file type docx that can't be read by Word 2003 unless you install the Compatibility Pack for Office.

Thank you very much. I post a link so you can see that when I check there is no mention of anything other than 2007. Oh my! Why?

I guess I'll install it, but still do not understand it.

If you have the Compatibility Pack install (which I'm guessing you do) then installing the update would be a good thing.

Once again, many thanks. I hate doing things I don't quite understand. But, I agree, it should be done.

Any ideas why MS is ignoring the SP's I have installed? Would the fact that I first downloaded the Service Paks and then installed them make any difference?

    KB943985:
There was an issue with this update which caused some VBA code to return incorrect values.
If you do not have the updated KB943985, then updates will want to install it again (regardless of your current SP level).

    KB949031:
This is a patch for Outlook 2007 and I do not suggest you ignore it.

    KB947801:
The comaptibility pack is considered a part of Office 2007 but it will want to install it if it sees the prior compatibility pack installed with Office 2003. Yes, I suggest you install it.

In general, thre are some potential issues with running Office 2003 and Office 2007 on the same Windows Installation. I do not suggest it.
If you really do need to have both, I personally would run them on seperate windows installations (on seperate partitions).
