    - What SP?

    - What happens when you F8?

    - Just started?

Something to try if you can get in normal or safe mode that may help and can't hurt:

    - start~run~cmd and then chkdsk /r and answer Yes to doing it at next boot then reboot.

    steps tried..

Replaced registry files,system32, with no success..Computer took 20 plus minutes to reboot. Same error as before came back, Hit F1 to continue..should I continue with the suggested repair from Stootzes site? I am in worse shape than before this attempt at correction...Please advise..
    Thank you,
    Eric

eafin - sorry you are still having problems but I'd still like to see you try a good chkdsk /r (for repair) and the way it seems to do best is start~run~cmd then at the command prompt, chkdsk /r and when it tells you it can't complete so would you like it to run at next boot, say Y(es) and reboot.

The command absolutely cannot do the repair work on a volume that is in use as your system volume will be. Must do the work before it loads the OS.

Also, have you run a full virus scan using an updated AV product? In fact, at this point I'd suggest running an online scan with something like Housecall. Turn off System Restore and reboot before doing this. Easiest to turn it off, do the chkdsk, then do the scan when things are running again.

After both of those are complete, try start~run~sfc /scannow to make sure you've replaced any bad system files with good versions.

    Per your suggestion

I have but will do another chkdsk and see what happens. I have done a virus scan with Norton with no virus detected. I will advise soon..
    Thank you..
