    Hi

I often receive email attachments which should open in notepad. When I click on them I just get a blank notepad page.

Could someone please advise me how to open them.

Not at all familiar with notepad, still learning all the little things on computer.

    Hope you can help

    Thank you

    Hi biddie

First off, if you are running OE 6 check under Tools > Options > Security that there is not a check mark against 'Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened ......' The default for OE 6 is not to allow so if that box is checked, uncheck it.

Secondly what is the file extension of the attachments you are trying to open, .txt or something else?

Try saving an attachment to "my Docs" or somewhere, and see if it opens normally from there. Right click on the attachment, choose "save as" and specify a destination. I'm wondering if the problem is in the actual attachments or in Outlook Express. Please answer Pete's question about the file extension (the last three letters after the dot) because perhaps you don't have the right program assigned to handle the attachments. I think what PeteC was trying to establish was that you are trying to open a txt file with a corresponding program. In Windows Explorer> Tools> Folder Options> View scroll to the extension and highlight it. You may need to set it, or toggle it, to make it behave correctly.

Slip of the finger I fear ....

Tools > Folder Options > File Types and check the association for file type you are trying to view.

Thank you, PeteC. You are correct, of course. Not a slip of the finger, just the loss of my mind! :D
