I installed a different hard drive into a Presario Laptop. After loading Windows 2000 I get a message "disc read error, press alt-control-delete ". Have done this several times (even reloaded 2000) but still have this message.

Boot to the Windows Recovery Console (Start from the Windows CD and use the recovery console (hitting R when it asks). Next run chkdsk /r. Be prepared it could take several hours to run.

Thank You, I finally got windows 2000 installed. I am thinking I may haave bought a bad hard drive. If I restart the computer, the screen is totally jumbled. It looks like a bunch of lines gathered together.

That doesn't sound like a hard disk problem. If your HD is 'scrambled' your PC won't start.
