I want to put XP Home SP2 on my 3 computers at home, mine, wife's and son's. So, the question is that I have not found yet is..

A: Do I have to buy 3 copies?
B: If not, how much do I need to pay Gates so he can buy an new car?
    C: Do I just stay with 98se?

That would be either 600.00 bucks (full version) or 300.00 for just upgrade copies. A bit much for me, even though we have 3 comps.

I'm afraid that's the way the EULA crumbles. And, No, I don't think that's fair. You might want to do a Google for an OEM version of XP. It would likely save you some dough and it's legal AFAIK.

    OEM Examples

    A. Yes.
    B. Upgrade version is fine and certainly cheaper.
    C. You can stay with 98 for a while longer but it will be getting more and more out of date so at some point you will have to upgrade and Longhorn, the next version after XP, isn't due for quite a while.
