I had to re-install WinXP-2 and lost my FAX
setting. I seem to have set up the fax ok but cannot send a fax. System says I don't have a modem and it worked before the re-install.

Do you know/remember the model of your modem?

I do not have any additional modem. There was (I think) a modem driver that comes with XP

    tenbob,

To use Fax you either need a modem (connected to a phone line) or a fax service over the internet. XP does come with plenty of modem drivers but not every.

In device manager (see below) are there any unknown devices?

To access Device Manager in XP click Start -> Run and in the Run Box type
    Code:
    devmgmt.msc

I cannot understand the problem: I had no problem sending Faxes with my original Dell without adding hardware. Now I re-iinstalled Winxp -sp2 and cannot. It must be around but even Dell tech could not help

Let's start from the basics ;)

Is your computer connected to a phone line?

Is there any unknown devices in device manager?

Have you made any hardware changes to the system?

What model of Dell do you have?
