After a HD crash - I re-loaded PicPerk, an image viewer and editer program, from their site.
But the new version was 6.1 and is now a trial version - not freeware like it was. So I uninstalled 6.1 and found and uploaded version 4.2 - as I previously had. But now, I suppose a cooke is identifying me as still having the 6.1 version and wont let me continue unless I purchase the 6.1 program.
I don't need 6.1 (I look upon this is a form of extortion) - just want my old version to work.

How can I use my PicPerk ver.4.2 copy?
Can I delete a cookie - or what?

    Thanks,
    Charlie

I agree with the last part of your statement, but not the first :) If it was possible to simply reload a trial the software manufacturer would never make any sales - and there would be no software.

However one possible solution - rather unlikely to work IMO - these trials get noted in the registry in a place that seems to be inaccessible to us mere mortals - is to download RegSeeker and search the registry for PicPerk - make sure the backup before deletion box is checked and delete the entries relating to PicPerk.

Incidentally many on the Board rave about IrfanView as a freeware image viewer and editor - worth a look?

I have irfanview. I find the "enhance colors" slide controls a bit too sensitive for effective control. It might have to do till I decide what else too do.

btw - I'm not depriving someone of due profits by simply wanting my older version to operate. The fact is - there's enough free software that I would have picked something else originally had it cost.
These software companies can make profits from corporate accounts, other software, advertising and donations. You just don't like paying for something that was once free - like inflating your tires at the service station.
For me, it goes into the catergory of lifes pet peeves:
    * like things that used to be free
    * things that were better once upon a time
    * or things that were a lot cheaper once.

    Thanks Pete

    Just a thought here ....

In Photoshop it is possible to make fine adjustments to the slider controls by clicking on the slide control, which highlights the value in the value box and then to use the up/down arrow keys on the keyboard to make fine adjustments. Not having IrfanView I don't know if it would work in that.
