My Win2K SP3 system having at last gone eccentric (to say the least), I want to reinstall. A couple of years ago, when the system was delivered, I had Partition Magic make an image of the OS partition before anything much was installed on the system. (It's proved to be a very successful install) Is there any reason why I can't have PM write that image to the present OS partition? And having done that, is there any particular reason to install SP4?
    O.

Providing you haven't made any major hardware changed like a new mother board then you shouldn't have any major problems. The system will be very out of date as far as windows updates and any other driver/software updates you have done. But it's still faster than a new install.
Yes I would advise putting SP4 on as there are new security and windows updates/fixes. After installing SP4 go to windows update as there will be a plethora of further updates available. Some are not nescessary, but most are recommended to install.

    Bob,

If you've ordered the Windows Security Update CD, you will at least have the security updates through October 2003:
    http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

That only leaves four months to deal with... :( Or perhaps the SP4 will address that time lapse?
