So there was another laundry list of security updates, patches, and new drivers. Everything installed just fine, but now my beloved Vista Snipping tool is GONE. I used it so often, I had it in my Quick Launch toolbar. I did a search for it in Help and when I tried to click on the link "Launch Snipping Tool ", it just doesn't do anything.

Oh man, is it time for a fresh install of Vista already? I'd rather re-activate it every 60 days. :(

What happenes when you type Snipping in the Seach box on the start menu & click the Snipping Tool listed under Programs?

Can you launch the EXE direct? C:\Windows\System32\SnippingTool.exe

    Hey Arie,

Thanks for your response. I had already searched for it and no dice. I also cannot find it in the system32 folder, per your suggestion. All I did was download and install the latest fixes, patches and a driver update for my ATI FireGL V5200 video card. After the latest installation, which was, as always, successful, all of a sudden, the Snipping Tool was gone. I really like that tool for its simplicity and I used it quite often.

I really don't get this one. What does a standard software upgrade have to do with a completely unrelated mini-app, such as the snipping tool, and why would it get deleted? I did a complete virus scan, both in regular as well as in Safe Mode. No issues detected. I am thinking of re-installing Vista from scratch after other issues, such as constant shutdowns due to my Thinkpad overheating when running Vista. I do not necessarily blame Vista for the overheating as it is a known issue with the Thinkpad T60/T60p models, but it doesn't overheat on XP.

I used Partition Magic 8.01 and made my Vista partition a LOGICAL partition, when I created it four months ago. Should I delete the partition after backing up my files and make it a PRIMARY instead? I do not want to lose access to XP, which resides on the C: drive.

Thanks again for yours and anyone else's expertise. :)

Did you play with Turn Windows Features On or Off?

You'll have to enable Tablet PC Optional Components.

Look under the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off.

You are good. You are...heh...GOOD! Thank you!...That was IT! I have my beloved Snipping Tool back. Yes, I messed around and turned off a lot of the Windows services but I didn't think that the Tablet PC settings included the Snipping Tool, and here we are, I have it back. Thanks Arie. You rock, as we say here in the United States. You just bought yourself some Lakers tickets lol (awesome seats!). Even if you're not into basketball, just for the atmosphere and energy alone is worth going. I'm a season ticket holder. If you ever want to immigrate to the U.S., let me know, and I'll help you with that, too, if you want. :D

    Thanks again Arie!

NP. It's just one of the things that you need to remember when you run across it. I heard it sometime in the beta being discussed, just had to find it again in my notes :D

This is great. Thanks again Arie. The thing is, I had been starting to lose faith in Vista, because I had actually BELIEVED it was due to a list of about 7 Windows updates, so I thought "Oh man, if Microsoft updates cause COMPLETELED UNRELATED applications to malfunction, that's not good. THAT was my major disappointment. Of course, it didn't help that it was the Snipping Tool that I had disabled myself in a haste and in 115 (45+C) heat. Don't ever move to Las Vegas...lol. Thanks again!!!
