    Hello everybody,

I'm having a strange issue with Server 2k8 and Windows7 workstations : each time I open a RDP session from one of the workstations to the server, printing problems occur. It can affect all the 15 PC's or only a few. The problem is moving from one or more PC(s) to the other(s). When RDP session is terminated, the printing problems are generaly gone (server reboot is often needed).

What I can see on the PC affected by this issue is that all the printers are gone away : in fact the Windows7 spooler service is not running any more. If I try to restart the spooler, it doesn't succeed (I set recovery actions to "Restart ", but it does not work either. Restarting the PC does not help.

I found some information on the internet : it could be a driver issue ? I should remove all the printer drivers on the server, install only PCL and Microsoft approved drivers, and it could be resolved ? Before attempting such an action, did anybody already hear about that problem ? All printers are network printers from Canon and are working since a few years (no problem before with Server 2003 and XP PC's).
I didn't yet install the SP1 of Windows7 : I was waiting this one to see if that could be the solution, but it is not yet tested.

    Many thanks.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Not sure why you have posted in the Malware & Virus Removal forum - Networking probably most appropriate rather than the Windows 7 or Windows Server forums.

    Thread moved to Networking.

Does the one workstation have a printer that no one else has?
When the person connects to the server does his printer show up in Control Panel Printers??

No, all the PC's have the same mappings to the 3 Canon network printers.

When I connect to the server, I don't need to print, so I'm not sure of the printer status on the PC I use. Now that I realized that using RDP session caused problems, I just don't use RDP at all. I 'll open an RDP session this night when the users are not present, so as to see if the print spooler is still running on my PC.

    Many Thanks.

I made the test : when connected to the server, I keep my printers running. No problem for me.
