I am studying for CompTia Sec + exam and have a question that I can't find an answer for. How do you setup RBAC (role based access controls) in a W2K environment? Thought it would be using "groups ", found that is incorrect, but can't find "how" its done. Appreciate any input, thanks, Joe.

For 2K and AD, Group Policy Objects is a better solution than standard Groups as you would have used for it with NT4. Either that or some of the many 3rd party tools that were created to do the job.

You've probably noticed that with a pure 2K3 domain (all servers running 2K3 in 2K3 mode rather than mixed) there is now a M$ written tool just for taking care of RBAC. I haven't played with it but the various write-ups sound interesting.

My guess is that when Longhorn finally ships with it's WinFS (file system), we'll see a whole new way of doing RBAC.

Not sure exactly what the exam question wants but hopefully the above will help out.
