Am working with some RAR-compresed files and noticed that there is no "xxxx.rar" file.

There is xxxx.r01, xxxx.r02 etc up to xxxx.r054...

I've played around with combining RAR files with Winrar where you double ckick on the xxxx.rar file and it re-combines the compresed files into the bigger file but I'm not sure what to do when there's no .rar file....?

Also - there is a xxxx.svf file which I believe is the crc verification checker but what should I do with this file? Will Winrar somehow use this to verify the quality of the .rxx files - or do I need another program? - or do I need to even worry about it?

    Thanks for the help.

I think it would help us to look into your problem if we new how
the .r01, .r02 etc files were created.
Eg did you somehow split a large file on your PC to smaller files ?
    If so, how ?
Or are these files from outside your PC eg from a download ?
Are they all in a single Folder ?
    regards

These files are from a download and are all in one folder - and apparently by recombining the individual files you can recover the oiriginal large file.

I'm thinking now I can associate the xxxx.r01 file with Winrar and that will automatically re-combine the files together into the original. Is that right?

What do I use the xxxx.sfv file for?

    Thanks and regards.

I've never done anything with these types of files but I did a Google search and came up with this. It seems besides the .rxx files, there should also be a .rar file to go along with the .rxx files. You're supposed to put the .rar file and all of the .rxx files into a folder together and then double click the .rar file. This will start Winrar. You then select "extract or "extract to" and then select "process all volumes ". If you selected "extract" you'll find the joined file in the folder you're currently working in. If you selected "extract to" it'll be in the folder you chose to extract it to.

    As for the .sfv file:
    SFV> Simple File Verification
It's a file you can use to verify that the file isn't missing any parts or corrupted in any way. I don't know if Winrar can use the file or not but there are programs available to use with the sfv file. Here's a couple. The first costs $8.95 and the second from what I can gather from the page is free but the author asks you to send a donation if you like it.

    SFV Checker
    QuickSFV

If you don't like either of those, I found them by search Google using just sfv for a search term. There were more but I just grabbed the first couple I saw.
