Hi, My computer will restart randomly at anytime. Most of the time i will wake up in the morning and my computer will be at the log on screen but the rare time im there to see it actually restart, it goes through all the proper steps to do a restart (closes all programs, says windows is shutting down, restarts and doesnt give me the option to run in safemode). there is no warning to when it will restart other then once all my programs start closing. I leave my computer on most of the time but its in a well vented area and in my opinion its not overheating because i think it would just shut off if that was the case. any and all support is eagerly looked forward to thank you for reading.

The Acer Aspire M5100 came out with a 250 Watt Power Supply (as shown in your specs HERE)

Possibly you have since updated your original Power Supply?
If not, then I would suggest that this would be the first thing to do (other than using high compressed air can to blow out all internal dust)

    Start with that.

Hi xxstevoxx, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

The fact that your computer actually restarts normally without any issues tells me that it could be some Windows Updates that get installed and they automatically restart your system after they finish installing. Is your computer current with Windows Updates? Also have you tried updating all your device drivers?

well that would ****, i had my computer completely full tho (6GB left on my 500GB HDD) so i removed a lot of my stuff because my friend said that windows could be doing it because it doesn't have enough space to run

PS:i didn't know it would block out the word opposite of blow.

    Good idea

Anyway before purchasing any new hardware (in this case power supply)
It would be ideal to confirm that it's not software related

You could also run a Memtest scan on your Ram (4hrs minimum required)
Now I'd post Memtest (free) link, but it seems everytime I post links here, my reply takes 5 or 10mins to go through (just the site's safety measure I suppose, or something else)

Anyway, yes backup first, and restore Vista fully, or clean install it (huh, I had a guide link for that too, but oh well)

:p seems like kimsland is getting frustrated alright ill try clean install but i have one more question i play starcraft (yes i know its really old game) and on vista it flickers colours and i figured out a way to make it stop doing it before but i forgot and i know its gonna do the same problem again when i factory reset it does anyone know how to fix it (the colours go all funky and the screen flickers every like 3 seconds) or is this TOTALLY the wrong tech support site for that xD.

Yes, well gaming tech support, I've always detested :D
But I'm sure I could work it out as I posted a ~20K posts on a tech gaming site once (but that was mainly Windows support replies + gaming support as well)

Really if you still have a 250Watt PSU I'd be going down that track, even if it doesn't the immediate fault a 3D graphics card plus trying to game on your computer (ie extra Ram and possibly fans etc) I'd update it if I were you.

Also I feel the delay is intertwined with subscription here (but shh don't tell anyone I know :) )

:p well when i get the chance ill work on getting a new PSU and some more ram but till then the factory restore will have to be a good substitute and hopefully work. I've finished doing it, but would it be ok if i posted a link to a screen shot of starcraft playing on my computer? (and yes i have disabled visual themes and disabled desktop components in the compatibility tab after right clicking and choosing properties)

Have you made sure that all your drivers are up to date? Also defragmenting your harddrive wouldn't be a bad thing to do either. Download and run Auslogics Disk Defrag.

    Thanks for the update

Mind you if it happened in Safe Mode as well it could still be hardware related
So if it happens again, possibly run a full memtest scan first (if you type "memtest" in Google it should be the first hit anyway)

Memtest should report zero errors to be normal, if you get even one error then you may need to replace the Ram (ie not just update it)
Although, as I've mentioned a few times, I don't believe 250Watt Power Supply is enough, absolute minimum would be 350Watt, but I'd suggest got 450watt up to ~600watt at the most (if you decide to buy a new one)

We may hear back from you still :/
