Can you connect via dial up? What happens when you try to connect? Can you PING a site?

And next time if you ever call tech support, make sure they don't send that same guy out. He's an idiot.

What brand PC is it and where did you buy it from?

Has the computer ever hooked up to the Net? If so, when did the problems with connection begin?

Also, what did this tech guy from ISP do and what else did he say?

Sorry for all the questions, but I doubt this is malware related, but after some history maybe I'll think differently.

also we have done a complete system recovery and still no internet and now the computer manufacturer and the isp wants us to erase the hard drive by right clicking on c drive to do this and of course that doesnt work either.
We also paid to get a recovery cd from our computer manufacturer. and now they want us to download a floppy drive to erase and this computer doesnt have a floppy.
please let me know if you need to know anything else. I am happy to give it at this point plus we have been trying for over a week now to get this fixed.

OK, this is most definately not a malware problem.

We have issues which we need to try and uncover.

First lets move the Ethernet card to a different slot.

After that, lets get a start up list from HJT to check your LSP info.

Please generate a startup list using HJT. And please check the 2 boxes next to the 'Generate Startuplist' button:
    List also minor sections (full)
    List empty sections (complete)

Also, what version of McAfee did you have? System suite, or just av and firewall.......???

I know McAfee is similar to Norton in that their uninstalls are not very clean and they have a fairly specific uninstall process.

That link for generating a startup list is merely a tutorial explaining the procedure.
