    Hi all,

Will different brands of DDR RAM work in tandem with one another as long as they are listed to work at, say, PC 2100 (for example). I am going to do a memory upgrade before too long and I'm concerned that something that is backwards compatable (to PC 2100) may not work in tandem with what I have now.

Here's what I have now, FWIW....

    Memory Module Properties:
    Module Name Hyundai HYMD132 645B8-H
    Serial Number 85276085h
Module Size 256 MB (2 rows, 4 banks)
    Module Type Unbuffered
    Memory Type DDR SDRAM
    Memory Speed PC2100 (133 MHz)
    Module Width 64 bit
    Module Voltage SSTL 2.5
    Error Detection Method None
Refresh Rate Normal (15.625 us), Self-Refresh
    Highest CAS Latency 2.5 (7.5 ns @ 133 MHz)
    2nd Highest CAS Latency 2.0 (10.0 ns @ 100 MHz)

    Memory Module Features:
    Early RAS# Precharge Not Supported
    Auto-Precharge Not Supported
    Precharge All Not Supported
    Write1/Read Burst Not Supported
    Buffered Address/Control Inputs Not Supported
    Registered Address/Control Inputs Not Supported
    On-Card PLL (Clock) Not Supported
    Buffered DQMB Inputs Not Supported
    Registered DQMB Inputs Not Supported
    Differential Clock Input Supported
    Redundant Row Address Not Supported

    Memory Module Manufacturer:
    Company Name Hynix Semiconductor Inc.
    Product Information http://www.hynix.com/eng/products/dram/index.jsp

    yes
Also, most motherboards that use pc2100 will also support pc2700. So, if you have such a mb, you can use both types at the same time. Ram is usually marked as pc2100-2700, which means the ram will run at both speeds. So, if are using pc2100 and throw in a stick of backward compatable pc2700, the pc2700 will work and run at a clock speed of 2100.

    Thanks Tony!.....That's good to know.

I had an older MB before I bought this one that ran pc100 ram only. I had 2 banks of 32mb RAM installed in it and I decided to upgrade with an extra 128mb (PNY brand), but the newer pc100 RAM would not work with the older RAM. So that's what triggered my question.

Even taking ram speeds into consideration, there's always the possibility of having two brands of memory that don't play well together. Heck, there's even the possibility that your mainboard might not like the brand of ram you buy. Such a situation happened more in the "old days" than in newly released products but it's still a possibility.

But what Tony said is right - theoretically you shouldn't have any problems.
