I've put 128KB extra ram in my ancient little PC because it currently chugs along with only 32 KB. Unfortunatly the RAM is now in but there is no change in the amount of memory available.

I took all the info I needed into Maplins- I have an ACORP 5SiS22 motherboard with an ancient but almost tolerable 200 MHZ MMX processor with 2 simm and 2 dimm slots.

    They've given me an SDRAM 128 M(16M x 64) PC 100.

Have they given me the right type of memory expansion?

    Maybe.
If you have any simms, you have to take them out.
Then you have to check the manual, and probably change jumpers to accept dimms, as they are a different voltage than your simms.
Then you also may have to get a matching pair of dimms.
    I found this:

Couple of things here - first off, you can't put memory in the DIMM slots and the SIMM slots at the same time - its one or the other but not both. Secondly, that board runs at 66mhz, however, most memory is backwards compatable so PC100 will run in a 66mhz machine if the MB supports individual modules as large as the 128MB you are trying. Next, your SIMMS chips are 72 pin while the memory you bought is 168 pin DIMM - assuming you had 2 "little sticks" in there. Then you have to know whether your board requires EDO memory (must be installed in pairs) or can run fast page. And lastly, is your existing memory registered or non-registered these can't be mixed either.

Sounds confusing, huh? So whats a guy to do? Ask a simple question and get back all this garbage .... sheesh! I think you'd be well advised to research your motherboard (try google for starters) and find out exactly what kind of memory will make that puppy's tail wag. You figure that out with a little research or a careful review of your MB manual and I'll tell where to get it.

    ;)
