A friend has a super machine that he had built for his home business. The machine is running win 2000Pro and has 1 Gig of Ram installed. Here is the problem. When the ram loads up to about 50% used, it dumps the machine. The failure is consistent. I have seen similar problems when there is a bad ram chip and have a ram checker to use next time I am at his house but was wondering if there are other causes for this problem that I should be aware of? Any thoughts would be welcome.

Sounds like a memory cache mismatch; try going to control panel, system and dbl-clk advanced tab and settings button under performance, advanced tab and choose programs in both places as indicated in the thumbnail (click on it to enlarge it).
Also note the paging file size, and click the change button. Check custom and type in the recommended size if it's not already the present size.

Thanks Sparrow. It will be a couple of weeks before I am back at that machine but will try this soon as I get there. I will check back with the result as soon as I try these, :)

Hi again. Well I tried all the above including a RAM test with downloaded software, no joy. But what I was not able to do was run a stress test on the RAM does anyone know a good RAM stress software (preferably) freeware?
