i recently changed my motherboard and chip, and had a existing raid array from the system. it was a abit kt7a-raid. i had 3 hard drives: 1 maxtor as my primary, and 2 western digital 40gig's in a striping array. the new mobo i got (asus a7v266) does not have a raid controller on it, so i just picked one up. it is a iwill side raid-100 card (uses the highpoint 370 chipset, as did my abit mobo)so i figured it would see the existing raid array. well it dosn't. i had windows2k server on the last one, and i switched to xp professional with this new board (MISTAKE!!!)

i know for a fact the array is still good because i can put it back on the abit mobo and it's fine and the data is still intact. now i did do a hardware raid, not the software one in win2k. when the current system boots up with the controller card, it sees the 2 disks in a raid0 array(which it's suppose to be). in disk management it sees the array, formatted in ntfs, and the disk usage and sizes are correct. when i go to open it in exploree, i get nothing. i went so far as to make sure i got the same chipset so i wouldn't have any problems with the drives. so.....any ideas??
PLEASE HELP AS I NEED THIS INFO AND CAN "T LOOSE THE DATA!!!
    TIA!!

Glad to see the site back up again and i love the new layout!

When in Disk Management do the raid0 partition(s) have a drive letter printed in the top left of the partition map? I suspect not. As everything elce is working (the raid card can find the disk array and the disk managent sees the logical device) i will assume that its all ok, try the following:

    1) select partition in the the raid0 disk
    2) right click and choose "Change drive letter and path "
    3) click on add
    4) from the "assign a drive letter" drop box choose a drive letter for the raid0 to exist as and click ok
    5) close the disk management

That should make it visible in explorer, if not let us know and we will try a different tack.

the raid array is actually sen as disk0 and the maxtor with my os on it is seen as disk2. the raid array does have a drive letter (g), it sees the partition(ntfs) says it's active, healthy and online. as i said before everything in disk management sees it fine, and all the specs are ok. i don't want to patrition it because i can't loose the data.

i'm kinda in a jam because i don't have a hard drive big enough to back up to and, it's kinda hard to put 60 gig on cd.

    any other ideas?
    TIA!!

    hmm,

ok for the moment lets try the basic stuff:

    1) change the drive letter to anything elce using the above method. This may make the drive appear when it is remounted.

    2) apply SP2, then any updates that www.windowsupdate.com thinks is appropriate.

    3) Flash the controller and m-board to the lastest versions.
