    Hi guys,

Does anyone knows why QuickTime won't qork with Windows XP? I've tried the latest version (6.1) and I can never see a movie trailer when visiting the apple page. Afetr selecting the format all I get is a blank screen and no movie.

I played with the preferences, including proxy setting but to no avail. Seems to me that QT is not registered. Any idea?

    Cheers!

All versions of QT work fine for me, even that very early version that many games insist on installing whether you want it or not.

A problem that occurs with QT at times is when a download manager program is set by default to download .mov files. They compete for them and QT usually loses.

Does anything pop up when you first access the Apple site?

You could look through the MIME settings in the plugin preferences to be sure they are set to open the file-types you want.

    Thanks Abraxas,

The plug-in MIME settings are OK. When I get to the Apple site, there are popups, no error messages, nothing. The little screen ahere the movie should be showing is white, no pic, no sound. A small file however is downloaded and it does nothing.

I was looking at the discussion bit at the QT site and apparently lots of people are having similar problems...

I'll play with my download managers and see if I get somewhere.

    Thanks again!

    Hey Abraxas,

You were right man! I edited the options in my Download Accelerator and excluded QT and MOV files from the "download automatically" and it worked perfectly!

I can now play the movies OK.

    Thanks a lot mate!

Aha! I wondered if I was the only one. I have my options set to always ask in DAP now since I was unable to dl some files from sites that don't accept multiple connections. The damned thing kept popping up every time I went to Apple. So That was what lead me to the problem.

Glad you got it sorted out :D

    Hey again,

Yeah, probally we were not the only ones but the thing could at least give us some error message couldn't? Just sat there staring at me...

I see that you are or were a "Univac 1100" man. I used to work for Burroughs (later, UNISYS), with series A...

    Cheers!

Ah, the good, old days, when all you needed to program a computer were wirecutters, a flashlight, and a ladder

...and lots of coffee and doughnuts throughout the night shifts, burning your eyes watching stupid pulses on the scope tracing back some stupid faulty flip-flop and telling senseless jokes at the staff room to keep the eyes open till the sunrise... Good old days my foot!
