alf-- No personal experience with Quick Restore at all.
What problem are you trying to fix?
If you still think Quick Restore is the way to go, are you following whatever instructions Compaq gave you or is in their Help file? Maybe there are instructions on the CD that came with the PC?
    Or maybe help here
    http://www.google.com/search?source...GGLD:2004-31,GGLD:en&q=Compaq+"Quick+Restore"

And are you familiar with running scanreg /restore from an MS-DOS prompt? This could work if the problem started less than five days ago. Post back if you need instruction for this.

It may also be worth mentioning that for many XP users, Microsoft updates (sp1) and OEM restores had a problem that required a patch from the original manufacturer, in this case Compaq/HP. Updating caused OEM restores to fail. I don't know for sure if the same holds true for 98se users but if this is the case, a patch will be available from your support site.

What happens when you try the Quick Restore CD? Do you get an error message? If so, what is the exact wording of the message?
