I'm posting this in the XP forum as it would appear to be an OS problem ....

    XP Pro SP2 fully patched.

Quicken 2000 Deluxe - runs from Desktop short cut once and will then not run again until a reboot. Same problem if run direct from Program files.

No problem with other .exe's - AFAIK to date.

This has me puzzled :( The problem started a couple of weeks ago and I have been away for a couple of weeks so only just getting down to finding a solution.

Done all the usual things ...,

Uninstall, clean out all traces from Registry and reinstall - no change

    SFC - nothing replaced.

chkdsk /r - no effect and no problems found.

    HijackThis - nothing unusual

    Trojan scan - nothing found

    AV check - Nothing found

Adware, etc check - nothing found

System restore to 2 weeks back - no change.

Run surferdude2's bat file to fix .exe's - no change

This realy has me stumped - any thoughts?

BTW - Quicken working perfectly on laptop, same OS.

Hmm - didn't think to look there :( QW.exe is shown as running although the program has closed on the screen. End Process allows Quicken to start again from the desktop icon.

    Any more thoughts?

I do not believe this is and OS problem.

I ran into the same problem with a program in 98SE. For some reason that I never figured out the program was starting twice.

All I did was delete the existing Shortcut and make a new one.

I just watched Task Manager as I started and shutdown Quicken and watched QW.exe come and go.

I also just started Quicken and a Windows appeared asking about backing up. I said no and QW.EXE stayed in Task Manager.

    Thanks, BB ....

No joy - it's nothing to do with the desktop shortcut, the same problem occurs if Quicken is started from the .exe file directly in Program Files.

I have already backed up today to floppy and autobackup to HD is also set.

This is a recent problem - I've been using this version since before XP came on the scene and haven't knowingly changed anything.

    Problem resolved :)

Thank you Norton - you fouled up again :D

Tied the start of the problem down to the point at which I installed Norton Password Manager. Remember seeing on one of the Install screens something about NPM not handling Intuit Quicken paswords, but no mention of the fact that it actually fouled up Quicken.

My Quicken file was password protected - removed the password and all is well. Now have to decide which is more important - Norton Password Manager - quite handy or a passworded Quicken account, maybe overkill for one who lives alone.

    Thanks for the input, guys.

BTW BB - you were correct - not an OS problem :)
