In 98 and Me I was able to use
    c:\windows\rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows
to click an icon on desktop to shutdown.

Is there anyway to do it in XP, abovve line does not work?

    thanks

The shutdown shortcut I use has %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 01 as the target.

    For shutdown I use:

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0

    and for restart:

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -r -t 0
