My quick launch icons until now have always been on the lower left of my task bar just to the right of the Start icon. Now they are showing up on the right side of the task bar and I cannot seem to get them back on the left. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Hi Marv,

To move the Quick Launch Toolbar next to the Start button, hold your mouse pointer over the bar's left edge. When the pointer changes to a double-pointed arrow, click and drag the bar to the left. When your mouse pointer is just to the right of the Start button, the Quick Launch toolbar will jump into place there.

Help ski123, Your suggestion worked, but earch time I reboot the quick launch icons jump back to the right. This has been happening since I went from Win98FE to Win98SE a few days ago.

With FE there is a NoSaveSettings in the registry. For some strange reason it did not carry into SE. With an upgrade the value may be there but the facilty to change it will not.

Without it any alterations to Windows Explorer settings are only applicable to that session. On a Restart the persistent settings are used. This is how it should be. We don't want to make changes for a particular session and then find that they will now be used in all future sessions unless we edit back.

However, we should have a way to change the persistent settings. Most folk would use the word default but, in this context, I prefer persistent.

Cut and Paste the following into NotePad, tidy up the carriage return insertions (all forums suffer from this) and Save As NSS.reg.

Now merge the reg script into the registry.

In Folder Options you'll find Explorer Options and "Keep windows settings permanent ".

With the box unchecked, make changes and Restart. On returning to the desktop, check the box to return to the state you are now finding infuriating.

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Advanced\Explorer]
    "Text "= "Explorer Options "
    "Type "= "group "
    "Bitmap "= "SHELL32.DLL,46 "
    "HelpID "= "IEXPLORE.HLP#00000 "

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Advanced\Explorer\WindowSettings]
    "RegPath "= "Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\Explorer "
"Text "= "Keep windows settings permanent "
    "Type "= "checkbox "
    "CheckedValue "=dword:00000001
    "UncheckedValue "=dword:00000000
    "DefaultValue "=dword:00000000
    "ValueName "= "NoSaveSettings "
    "HKeyRoot "=dword:80000001
    "HelpID "= "IEXPLORE.HLP#00000 "
