I constantly work with many different programs and have always worked with a Quick launch bar with two rows of icons docked below the taskbar. It worked fine wiht every version of Windows prior to installing XP
We love XP, but can anyone please tell me how to make XP Pro allow a two-row Quick launch toolbar docked to and below the taskbar?
I can dock a one-row Quick Launch bar with the taskbar and have it positioned either above or below the taskbar.
I can also easily get a two-row or three-row Quick Launch bar to dock above the taskbar.
But every time I try to position the two-row Quick launch bar below the taskbar, or the taskbar above the two-row Quick launch bar, XP changes the Quick launch bar back from two rows of icons to one row of icons.
I try resizing it by dragging it, but every time I try to put a two-row Quick Launch bar back below the taskbar, XP changes it back to one row of Quick Launch icons.
Auto-hide on or off does not affect the result.
Is there some setting I am missing, or some registry setting that I can use?

This can be done, because I'm doing it. It just takes time and patience when moving the bars around your task bar. Once they are in place, lock them.

    Hi Eric
With earlier versions i have been able to do it using the dragging and patience you describe.
Are you able to do it with XP?

steve--Perhaps you already know this, but in IE 6 (which I believe comes with XP), there is a setting to Lock the Toolbars. In Lock position you may not be able to move the Taskbar around. Go to View|Toolbars and uncheck Lock the Toolbars. Then you can recheck it when you get the Taskbars the way you want them.

    Hi Jim
    I appreciate your suggestion.
I have tried with the IE toolbars locked, and with the IE toolbars unlocked, both wihtout any success yet.
Because Quick Launch can remember the number of rows of icons when it is any position, docked or undocked, other than below the taskbar, I know Windows has a way to remember the number of rows. I just need to find someone who knows how Windows does it so i can try to set the number of rows manually, hopefully in the registry.
It was no problem in 98, SR1, or ME.
Please all, keep the suggestions coming.
    Thank you.

Go to start--> control panel--> task bar and start menu click on the task bar tab, tick the show quick launch un-tick lock the task bar go back to the desk top drag the task bar up to make two rows right click on an empty portion of the task bar and choose lock the task bar. As you add items to the quick launch and after the top row is full it will add items to the second row. If you fill the second row you can unlock it and pull it up for a third row or let them stack up into a menu. I have two rows in the quick launch on the left and two rows in the desk top bar on the right. You can limit how far over the icons will go before they start stacking with the vertical doted lines when the task bar is unlocked. Also note this does not work if the task bar is set to auto hide

    taskbar in XP

I have a similar problem with the taskbar. Somehow I accidentally made it wider. I want it to be one row. Now it is 2 rows. The extra spacing reduces the space I have to work with in Word. The toolbar is not locked. I attempted dragging the top of the taskbar, but the only result is that it disappears into a thin blue line. When I do get it back, it is still double the original width. This happened once before, and I got the "normal" taskbar back, but I can't remember the steps. I tried an XP book and Woody's lounge, but with no luck. Any thoughts?
