Having had several problems with the audigy soundcard (hasnt everyone who bought the **** thing), I keep having to reformat and install xp. The problem is that I get a blue screen that tells me theres something wrong with the registry and that some dump or other is starting. Safe mode start up doesnt work nor does anything else. The blue screen is too quick to read properly, and pressing the pause break key doesnt hold it. Im not using the fat file system so cant use the win 98 start up disk to access the hard drive files. Is there any way to repair the registry before accesssing xp, or just do something about this blue screen.
    thanks
    steve

Go to the Microsoft Online Support page, pick XP and search on recovery console. Take a look at the general description of the recovery console (Q314058) and the HOW TO article (Q307654).

Then try some of the check boxes at the top of the page to drill down to specifics.

You might also want to take a look at some of the tools available for NT systems at www.sysinternals.com (including instructions for making an NTFS boot floppy).
