Recently, MS issued an individual update (also included in the new cumulative update). This particular update changes the way IE passes username and password info in HTML and SHTML. Usernames and passwords can no longer be used in then address bar. Example:
    username : password @ domain.com

    834489
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;834489

    My question is this:

Does this update affect usernames and passwords in FTP urls? There is no mention of FTP in the MS articles. I often use IE to connect to FTP sites (as well as ftp & sftp clients). I also have a www & ftp server set up on a linux box (only locally) that my family uses to pass and share files. Presently, they access the server annonymous ftp using IE. No credentials are needed for annon ftp, but I had planned on setting up individual ftp sites for each kid and wish to have them use IE instead of teaching them an ftp client. Anyone know if this MS update affect ftp?

There is one ftp-site that I visit regularly and it still works with the username and password in the URL. It does not however bring up a login dialog box when I remove the username and password from the URL.

I think that I´ll have to have a chat with the guy in charge of that site.
