I have Windows 7 Home Premium (64 Bit). When I try to do an update to any program
I get a message that I must have administrative privileges. I have checked my account and it does say Administrator but when I go to control panel and Users Accounts and then Manage the Account - It shows as a Standard Account. I have tried to update the account several times.

I have also made another account and and logged on with it and then checked the original account and it says it is a administrative account but when I open Manage the Account - it shows as a Standard Account.

What if anything am I missing ?

    Thanks for the help.

You can modify the behavior of UAC (User Account Control) in Control Panel. You're experiencing the default setting, so to speak. If you don't want to be bothered with any of those messages, you can turn them off. I wouldn't do that, however, as it exists for a very good reason. For example, say if there is any malware trying to run code that could potentially wreak all kinds of havoc on your system. UAC would likely let you know about it and you'd be able to stop it in its tracks.

The User Account Control in Windows Vista was a bit harsh (although personally, I didn't mind it), but that is all remedied in Windows 7, which incorporates a good balance between caution and frequency of interference.
