    WinXP Home, SP2.

Under SP1, the tweak "2. Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000" worked
great. Under SP2 tho, it dont seem to hold the window(s) view settings.

I have hit the 8000 limit because the window always shows as the default
    size.
I keep my icons around the edges of the screen and like to have the windows
view at about a third of the top of the screen with an inch on the sides & top.
This gives me a view of all the desktop icons even with a window opened.
I've made the change to the reg for this tweak but it dont take for some
reason. If i open a window and set the size then close it with Control key
and the window "X ", it retains the setting until next time i reboot.

I know this is a "nit" but irksome.
Anyone know anything about this, like how to get the window to retain the
size, location i set it as???

    thanks,
    savagcl

    As in the attached image.

The "Increase Folder View Size Limit to 8000" setting referes to folder settings within Windows Explorer.

In Win Explorer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab is a setting called "remember each folders view settings." Need to make sure it's checked.

savagcl--Windows Explorer windows should open in the same size and location they were in the last time you closed them. Internet Explorer windows should do the same, but sometimes, when you right click a link and Open in New Window and the size/location is not what you want, you have to make the changes you want, and then close the first window first before closing the New Window.
If this is not what you are experiencing, try closing windows by holding down Control at the same time you close the window.

The "View Settings" setting includes things like Thumbnails, Tiles, Icons, List, and Details within a window, but often has no effect on the size/location of the window.
But the "Increase Folder View Size Limit" might have an effect.

I know you have tried Kelly's tweak. If you are adventuresome, you might try to do it manually in the Registry. (Back the Registry key up before making changes.)
As you can see from the MS article, the "problem" was supposedly fixed in SP2. Maybe 8000 is too much for SP2.

We're in the same area. Heres Kellys tweak:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
    "BagMRU Size "=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
    "BagMRU Size "=dword:00001f40

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoSaveSettings "=dword:00000000

Not sure what the "1f40" hex is in decimal .
No problem with editing the reg here. I'll give it a try.

    Thanks all,
    savagcl

savagcl--dword:00001f40 hex is equal to 8000 decimal. I would go for 5000 decimal (which is 1388 in hex) but you can just enter 5000.

I looked at the reg and it already had the "1f40" in those locations.
Guess it a XP learning curve since some of the windows are doing it the way
i set it and some are not.

We'll see if the other windows eventually will learn.

    Thanks for the help, all.
