Under advanced system properties, right now I have the virtual memory set so that my computer mananges the overall size of my virtual memory. If I were to set a custom size with the minimum size being 2048 MB and the maximum size being 4096 MB for example, would I notice any increase in my computers performance if I used a custom virtual memory size verses having the computer manage this for me?

I highly doubt you see any performance increase.

One of the reasons that people use a fixed page file instead of one managed by windows is t prevent fragmentation of the swap file.

Thanks for the comments Arie! I have always had the system manage the virtual memory but if there is no benefit performance wise if I were to set it to custom size then I will continue to let windows manage it for me. I understand why people would want to keep it at a custom size to reduce fragmentation like you said but I will probably just keep the virtual memory as it is then. What would you recommend?

I recommend leaving Windows to manage the page file.

Ok. I'll just let Windows manage the virutal memory then.

I use Arie's advice, but if I knew I had plenty of HDD space, I would think about setting the minimum size to the same as the maximum size, that way, the paging file should not fragment the drive.

I watch my memory levels though, and if I thought that by using the minimum/maximum sizes I was more than occasionally using more than the minimum size, I would get more RAM.
