    Hi,

I bought a 166 MHz Pentium IBM CPU (used one) with Lan card onboard.

    The questions are:

    1. Is the Lan card is PCI or ISA? How can I know about this?

    2. Is there any differences on the performance between ISA and PCI Lan Card?
    How big is the differences?

    3. Where can I get the driver of this Lan Card for Windows 9X? I meant on
    the web.

Fyi, there is no manual book or other information about the cpu.

    TIA for the help.

    Cheers,

    Yasmin

    ISA

(Pronounced as separate letters or as eye-sa). Short for Industry Standard Architecture bus, the bus architecture used in the IBM PC/XT and PC/AT. The AT version of the bus is called the AT bus and became a de facto industry standard. Starting in the early 90s, ISA began to be replaced by the PCI local bus architecture. Most computers made today include both an AT bus for slower devices and a PCI bus for devices that need better bus performance.
In 1993, Intel and Microsoft introduced a new version of the ISA specification called Plug and Play ISA. Plug and Play ISA enables the operating system to configure expansion boards automatically so that users do not need to fiddle with DIP switches and jumpers.

Your on-board card is neither of the above. You would normaly get the drives off the cd that came with the mobo or for the mobo maker's site.

Might download AIda32. It might be able to give you more info.

Or, you can get a new PCI card for next to nothing...

    May help?

If you have an IBM system try here to identify the type/model:
    http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-49QTT6

(Pentium is the processor "chip "/CPU...Central Processing Unit ...manufactured by Intel).

Then here to find the correct drivers for your LAN/ "ethernet ":
    http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/

There is a lot of information at IBM. May take some searching, but it should all be there (it is very much geared for the corporate world).

Note: If you start the PC without a LAN connection, it may may show an error. Maybe what you are seeing?
