    Hi
I've got the autoupdate going for windows update and today microsoft started downloading the new sp2 but being on dialup this thing is taking forever, and sometimes I find the little icon disappears that tells you what percentage has downloaded. So if I get off the internet and go back on it will reappear. Right now I'm on 35% which has been there awhile. If this is a huge update it will take me forever with dialup. I went to Microsoft website and it says a cd will be available at some point. But if it's already started downloading and it will probably continue till it's done. I don't know how to stop it till I can get the cd. I don't have any friends with broadband or cable internet so it looks like I'll be downloading forever or wait to see if I can get the cd when it's available. That is if I can stop the autoupdate download.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

It is pretty large. If you got the whole thing, it's slightly over 266Mb. If you are getting it via automatic update it will be smaller since it will only bring down the items your PC needs but still large and still a matter of 'how many hours'.

Within the past hour I had the same thing happen, including the different %ages of completion being displayed from time to time. I'm on DSL, so it took "only" several minutes for it to download, but I wasn't even sure what it was that was coming down. The HDD commotion lasted long enough, though, to make me suspect it was SP2. When the MS icon down in the Sys Tray opened a balloon that asked me if I was ready to do the install, it didn't offer a Yes or No, just Express and Custom. I clicked Custom, and that's when I saw that the update was SP2. I clicked out and will probably wait a month or so before I do the install.

I'm curious about one thing now, though. Since the update has already downloaded itself, will it be erased the next time I shut down? Or will it stay somewhere (where?) waiting for permission to install and probably annoying me every day, asking if I'm ready?

It should stay there until ready to install and then erase after installation.

I turned AU on only recently, can't write from personal experience. The following is the only indication of where the update would be.

Let us know if that is where you find SP2.

charlesvar: You're right, I did find the MS Updates icon waiting for me when I booted up today. A balloon opened asking if I wanted to install SP2 now. I declined.

I found a V4 file in the Windows Update folder. Whether I clicked on it to open it or if I clicked on it to back out, I can't remember, but somehow the entire Windows Update folder has vanished! I looked all over for it, did a Search, even shut down and rebooted. It's gone. The MS Updates icon is still down there, though. * sigh *
