    Hi

I have just built a new PC with an Intel Core i5-750 2.66 GHz Quad Core Socket 1156 8MB L3 2.0Gb/s DMI Interface together with an Intel DH55HC Mother Board.

    My question is

"Does Windows XP Pro SP3 make full use of a quad core processor like this one? "

My main application is video editing and DVD creation, and I have seen a noticable increase in the speed at which it encodes to MPEG when creating DVD compliant files but I am wondering whether or not it is using the processor to it's full capability.

    Thanks

    Ken

    Hi Wildfire

I asked this because I went to the local Computer store to buy blank DVD disc's and I asked the same question to be told that it does not use it to it's full capability unless one has a 64bit operating system? What do you know about it?

    Many thanks

    Ken

    Ken,

The OS will use the capabilities of Quad-Core, specific applications (particularly games) may not. I have no idea why your local store suggest there is a problem other than SP2 and earlier may have needed a little tweaking. XP Pro SP3 doesn't have these issues.
