I now have NS7 up and running on my system. Before installing NS7 I saved some archived emails that were in NS4.7 to a partitition on my hard drive.

I thought I could just copy those files into a folder and import them into NS7. But, the import tool in NS seems to be set up anticipating that you will be looking into an older version of NS to import from.

Can I just import the folder or do I need to re-install NS4.7 and do the imports? I really don't want to put the old NS on as I think that some of my other system problems were related to the browser and I have just completed a clean install of all my applications, etc.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Mary Lou,

The mail folders (the ones with no extensions) are the same format in both programs, and may be directly copied from one mail directory to the other, using Windows Explorer. Do this with Netscape closed. That is, assuming that you saved the entire Mail folder from Communicator.

As I just read your post again, are you saying that you saved only select messages, and not the entire folder, i.e., Inbox, etc.?

    Ramona,

I do have a folder (no extensions) that says mail and within that folder are the files that I want to transfer. I tried the "copy" idea and although I could see that the post command was working and the files are in the "mail" folder of NS7, they do not appear in the inbox or anywhere that I can find them using the browser.

Yes, I am able to find them with Windows Explorer and view them with notepad, so I know they are there but not available to the mail reader.

Could I just do a send to from the file I want to my email address?

    Oops!

In my previous reply to your suggestion I said that I could see that the "post" command was working.

I MEANT TO SAY THE "PASTE" COMMAND was working.

    Sorry for the confusion

    Hi Mary Lou,

You copied all the files from the Communicator Mail folder to the NEW 7.0 Mail folder? These were the Inbox, Sent, Trash, etc., files with no extensions? If you did this, then the messages should be in your appropriate mail folder when you open Netscape 7.0. You did close Netscape when doing the copy/paster?

If you did the above, and it didn't work, then you can try this, with Netscape closed:
Using Notepad, open the Communicator Mail folders you wish to copy to Netscape 7. For an example, start with Inbox (no extension). Copy the entire contents of the file.

Open the Netscape 7 Inbox folder and paste the contents of the Communicator Inbox file.

Let us know if this works.

    EDIT
In the Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings
Check the "Server Settings" on your Account and make sure the "Local Directory" is pointing to the correct folder.

    Hi Mary Lou,

    With Netscape closed:
Do a "Find" for *.msf. Delete all files that are found. These files will be rebuilt once Netscape is restarted.

    Let us know...
