"This background program is used by PCTEL modems. It is essential to the good functioning of those modems.

    Recommendation :
If you used to have a PCTEL modem, but have since replaced it, use Startup Manager to delete the Ptsnoop.exe entry. "

actually, the pc i am talking about, is not connected to the net, and actually it doesn't have any modem installed in it (not even en internal one).

so do you think that it is possible that it was installed with any other software ?

actually the only software i have installed on this pc are the following:

    • Office 2000
      Acrobat Reader
      Winace
      Nero
      Pc Cillin
      MusicMatch
      Paint Shop Pro

Moreover, if i decide to remove it, shall i remove it from the msconfig only, or is there an uninstall procedure for it ?

    Thanks

Anything I see about this file is related to modem software. That and possible trojan. I see references to it being real and a hoax, so who knows. I see more topics on a legit software for modems. Was there ever a modem installed? Maybe it was installed then. I found this page that tells how to remove it. It seems to come back if you just remove from MSConfig.

    Hope that helps!
