Proxy Server - Lan Settings

Hi Perhaps you can help me solving this problem that I've been facing.
I reinstalled Window98 on a computer as Windows doesnt shut down properly. After I reinstalled Windows98, it seems to fix the problem nicely but however, I cant tick or untick the proxy server on the Connections as the box next to the Proxy Server on the Network (Lan) settings is dimmed.
It would be much appreciate if you could tell me how on earth I could enable this tick box on the Proxy Server box as I need to put a IP address in it and yes I use Lan for Internet connection.
I have tried reinstalling again the second time but nothing changed. Has it got to do with the Registry ? Please help if you can.

Make sure that none of the auto configuration settings are checked. Try editing the information in the registry...

 "ProxyEnable "=dword:00000001
 "ProxyServer "= "192.168.0.1:8080 "

where 192.168.0.1 is the IP address of the proxy server and 8080 is the port number. Substitute your own here.

However, even though I manage to change the IP addess, I cant still connect to the Internet as the Proxy Server Box needs to be tick and I still cant do this when the box is dimmed.

Is there some programs or software I could use to correct this Registry Security and actually enable the tick box on the Proxy Server ?
