When I start up windows XP, and click on a icon, it takes the computer a while before I can do anything because I can hear programs running in the background. When I went to msconfig and disable all in the start up it still does the same thing.
Anybody know something else I can try?

    Thanks

XP looks like it's fully loaded before it actually is. Depending on the speed of the computer, it can take 10 seconds to a couple of minutes after the desktop appears before XP has finished getting itself sorted out and ready to go.

Do you have SP2 installed? It disables a number of services not needed by most users which may speed things up for you.

I will download the SP2 and see if that will work. I believe I have it but it may need to be updated.

    thanks
